For being three and a half years old Brock has quite the schedule. German Kindergarten 4 times a week, speech therapy 3 times a week, gymnastics on Tuesday, and possibly his favorite, Mini Feuerwehr (mini fire department) on Thursdays at the village firehouse. Every other week Brock gets to learn how to be a fireman thanks to a few volunteers who run the Mini’s program at our fire department. We are good friends with the fire chief, and he proudly told us that this program for the youngest kids is the only in our entire state, Rhineland-Pfalz. Continue reading
December is chock full of anniversaries for our family. This year marked our 3rd anniversary in Germany, 4th Christmas in Germany, 7th wedding anniversary, and the one year anniversary of our last miscarriage. 2017 has been a year of struggle, growth, and recovery but 2018 looks bright. Somehow all of the Autumn season has slipped by, and now we are in a wicked winter season. Just last week we had thunder snow! A first experience for me, and very bizarre to watch through our giant living room windows. Since that storm, we have had 2 more… but luckily our nights have been warm so the inches of snow disappear while we sleep.
Brock is indifferent about the snow. He likes to talk about it but he doesn’t like it to fall on his face. He is a fan of a good snowball fight, and his daddy and I happily oblige. Playing in the snow with Brock is so much fun. He has many outside trucks that we scoop the snow into and drive around our snowy construction yard.
With our DEROS (Date Estimated Return from Overseas) fast approaching I started thinking about all the things in Germany we will miss. Our German friends, localized foods, festivals, the option to travel… the list goes on. And at the same time looking forward to our next adventure. Somewhere new in the States for us probably. Someplace that Brock would start school. Someplace that maybe we would buy our first home. Turns out I was a little premature. But my nails will say it all… Continue reading
Almost a week ago our little man turned 2 years old… and I can’t even believe it. I look at him and see the same little boy that I have always seen but when I look back at pictures it is amazing how much he is growing. Just look at this one… these two are one year apart (in the same outfit). Continue reading
One week ago today Brock had his first birthday and it is true, one is fun! Brock loved his birthday and especially loved that Grandma & Grandpa Alles & Great Grandma & Grandpa Alles came all the way from the USA to celebrate with us in Deutschland. Continue reading
UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF POST
The eve of May 1st (May Day) is witches night in Germany and apparently that means to lock everything down. All the groups I am in online warned Americans living off post to pull their cars in the garage, bring in garden furniture, decorations, and even your doormat! I thought it was silly but when my new friend in the neighborhood warned me to take heed, I did! I brought everything in and waited. Continue reading
First of all, Happy New Year everyone! We rung in the New Year at the hotel by testing out a really fun German New Year tradition, bleigiessen and trying out a new show on Netflix, Sons of Anarchy. We fell asleep before midnight so we missed the fireworks in the village, but now (at 8 am) it is really foggy so we probably wouldn’t have been able to see anything anyways. Continue reading
How to make the best of living in a hotel for the holidays:
Step One: Christmas tree
I said to Fil, “if we are in a house by Christmas can we save a big box and make a tree?” Well that didn’t happen, but the PX had construction and poster paper, scissors and tape so we made a tree. Continue reading
I posted this an hour ago and somehow it was deleted… so here we go again:
We have been here for 5 days and have accomplished a lot! We have a local bank account which we can use for American dollars (on post) and Euros (off post), APO mailbox, cellphones, and the best news is that on Tuesday we will be able to move into a suite at the hotel. It would have been earlier but the weather this week delayed some people from leaving. Other big news is that we started Brock on rice cereal last night. He didn’t care for the taste but that just means we got to see the cutest faces :). Check out the video below of his second night trying it:
